Construction of the new tropical diseases inpatient unit
Paul Lechler Krankenhaus, Tübingen
The task included the redesign of an inpatient wing with three units and inpatient treatment areas with a total of approximately 5,000 square meter area for the tropical diseases clinic at the Paul Lechler Hospital of the German Institute for Medical Missions e.V. (Difäm). Following the local topography, the new building is nestled into the hillside and the curved shape of the building follows the contour lines of the surrounding landscape. The new construction is separated from the existing building with a glass atrium and allows the previously existing facility to appear separate. With its clearly delineated, south-facing glass facades, which reflect the layers of the surrounding terrain, the new construction appropriately recedes into the background. The new building's roof garden forms a kind of belvedere below the original Difäm building.
