Architectural Design Competition
Recognition extended for the University Hospital of Regensburg
New B5 facility to serve as temporary quarters during general renovations on the university hospital
The architects at BDA RDS Partners received recognition for their work in the design competition for the new B5 facility at the Regensburg University Hospital. The competition involved designing a building for roughly 90 beds in a new ward. The jury praised the draft’s defining concept, which envisions maintaining the continuity of the existing urban comb-like structure along with the inclusion of two spacious atriums, which serve to flood the corridors on all levels with light. This element is further emphasized by configuring the inner courtyard boundary as fulcrum, creating an airy and bright indoor environment.
