Construction of a new hospital building and rehab unit
LWL-Klinik Dortmund
The competition sought designs for a hospital and rehab building with 216 beds in six double units. The new treatment concept is based on comprehensive care by multidisciplinary treatment teams. Patients will receive inpatient, outpatient, or a mixture of care, depending on their healing progress. The new building is three stories high and was designed to fit closely into the surrounding park-like landscape. Each floor has two wings and a central section for common rooms and a reception area, with careful functional labeling to ensure patient orientation through the complex. The corridors of the units circumnavigate the interior courtyard. Not visible from the main entrance are the emergency room and receiving and waste handling in the basement.
