BioMedical Center (BMC) of the Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich
The objective of the competition was to design a research area for medical-, theoretical- and clinical research as well as for fundamental, medicine-oriented scientific research. The campus path is extended across the central square. This square forms the connecting link and acts as a turning hub between the existing buildings, the new canteen and the BMC. The comb-structure with a connecting main path makes multiple expansions possible for micro- and macro areas. The campus square can be accessed via the lecture hall, the seminar block with cafeteria / library and the departmental buildings. The departments are concentrated on five levels and connected to the communication core. The design of the exterior staircase resembles the double helix of DNA. It acts as a visible sign for the central communication theme.
