Alteration and restoration of the Institute for Pathology
The valuable, monumentally protected building substance of the preclinical institute ensemble has been preserved. The building has been modernized and adapted for modern institutional operations. A derelict connecting bridge between the institute and dissection hall was replaced by an enhanced access, which also accommodates additional double-door systems and changing rooms. The neighboring buildings are mirrored in the façade, which is made entirely of plate glass. The installation of an additional staircase optimizes emergency evacuation routes. Modern laboratory- and building service technology was integrated in a functional yet unobtrusive way. The special character of the institutional building has been preserved through conscientious and carefully executed restorations of valuable details. The Association for Home and Environment (AHE) in Germany has recognized the project as the national winner.
