Restoration of detention wing A, B and C with 216 spaces for inmates
The restoration of the monumentally protected Correctional Facility Görlitz was realized as the prison remained operational. Due to constant contact with prisoners it was necessary to observe the highest safety requirements and keep the construction site well organized. The building has a traditional brick design with capped ceilings. During the restoration of Detention Wing B the room structures for 216 prisoner spaces were altered and updated to current prison requirements. The detention cell deficit for one- or two-person cells was rectified. The sanitary situation was improved by constructing new lavatory rooms in each detention cell. The monumentally protected clinker façade has been fundamentally restored in accordance with high safety standards and without changing the historic character of the building substance.
