New research institute building for the Center of Molecular Plant Biology
Based on a design by Vermögen und Bau Baden-Württemberg / Amt Tübingen, the architects RDS Partner in cooperation with Wenzel + Wenzel are realizing from LPH 5 the 5,400 sqm Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) on the campus site, 90% of which is used for research purposes. The inner organization of the CMPB with its 16 independent research groups is based on free large-capacity structures, which can be flexibly divided into laboratory areas of 30 to 700 sq. m. Central facilities such as workshops, an isotope laboratory and a pool of teaching rooms are available to all institutes. Slanted bars and horizontal bands of exposed concrete in connection with a glass facade in the background characterize the overall appearance of the institutional building.
