Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University Greifswald
New building, Botanical Institute
The new building is part of the botanical garden and a wonderful expansion of the existing institutional building. The planning concept allowed for both a connection to the old building and expansions in several directions. High-tech laboratories are located on the ground floor, which also receive sunlight through the level’s translucent ceiling made of glass stones. Other laboratories and a greenhouse facing south are located on the upper floor. Together with optimal and controllable insolation, the installed ventilation- and lighting technology makes it possible to simulate various climate zones. A vertically organized technical center with a short media guideline on consumers is located on both basement levels. The horizontal distribution of technical installations is exceptional for institutional construction and allows for easier future alterations and revisions.
