Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University Greifswald
Alteration and restoration of the Institute for Anatomy
Restoring the monument has fulfilled the building’s future usage requirements. The monument is an exceptional well-preserved example of Prussian science architecture. The Provincial Construction Ministry Greifswald commissioned the restoration. On the one hand, the former charm of the building- and facility substance was to be preserved and enhanced with a renewed sense of glamour and, on the other hand, conditions for successful research and education were to be met by installing modern technology and establishing a rational layout structure. These goals were realized through cautious technological additions and installations, a consistent color concept and the preservation of details. After almost 150 years the building has once again been ranked as one of the most beautiful and practical anatomy institutes in Germany.
