Westphalia School for the Hard of Hearing Bochum
New building

The expanding addition in the form of an independent one-level building includes, among other facilities, a kindergarten with three group rooms, an elementary school with nine classrooms, a secondary school with three divisions and twelve classrooms as well as technical rooms. A specially customized schoolyard area has been designated for each school type. Two building transoms, offset against each other with flat and sloped monopitch roofs, are grouped around an open foyer, which can also be used as a break area or an auditorium. The students’ ability to concentrate is enhanced by sound-absorbing walls and ceilings as well as sound-insulating windows and doors. Hearing tests for students can be performed in an acoustically separate audiometry room. Brick masonry, exposed concrete, wooden- and flat-sloped zinc roofs create a harmonious and protected atmosphere.
