Community Center Holthausen, Hattingen
New building
The Community Center Holthausen has been designed in cooperation with the vicarage in the shape of a U with three independent, fully formed building parts, which encompass a protected interior courtyard with trees. The character of a village square as the focal point of community life has been created through the scaling, differentiation and materiality of building parts. A uniform design guideline integrates the fully formed building parts according to usage. The t, characterized by openness, transparency and a warm but purpose-driven atmosphere, is a common theme throughout the ensemble. The room areas facing the inner courtyard are similar to a winter garden due to the maximum transparency of facades. A large, multifunctional hall with sliding panels can be used as a sacred space or as a neutral community hall.
