Weir system, Baldeneysee Essen-Werden
The weir system is has a power station with three flow openings, which are sealed with hub rollers and a double-door system for boats. In the context of a necessary overhaul and renewal of the winding works the facade of these technical buildings was restored with due regard to the heritage facade design from the thirties. A cladding of aluminum plates emphasizes the technical character and provides a low-maintenance structure for damp environments. Since the weir system includes a bridge that allows pedestrians to cross the lake, a slanted, modern and lacy steel-glass roof was installed over the lookout platform. In 2010 the weir system with prominent light installation was the setting for the light house project “Ruhr Atoll” within the context of Culture Capital RUHR.2010.
