Residential house Kirchstraße in Hattingen
New building

Kirchstraße is a closed off street in Hattingen that has fully retained its character; it is characterized by randomly protruding fronts of half-timbered building floors. A building gap at this location severely disrupted its appearance from 1972 to 1987.

Haus Kirchstraße 4 was built as a half-timbered house in 1986/87 with proportionately medieval and yet contemporary appeal. Living spaces have been created on 2 floors, and large windows separated by sash bars ensure an abundance of natural light. Due to its half-timbered façade and the shape and pitch of the roof, the house blends in to the historical neighborhood and thus contributes to the theme of "urban renewal with care”. The “modernity of the timber framework” is detectable in the building's details.
