LVR Clinic Düsseldorf
Construction of a New Diagnostics, Therapy, and Research Center (DTFZ)
Prof. Jürgen Wilhelm, Chair of the Landschaftsversammlung Rheinland, lays the cornerstone for the new building.
RDS Partner handled construction of one of the largest and most challenging new psychiatry construction projects in Germany for the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR), with a total construction volume of roughly 65 million EUR for the first phase. The project involved construction of the new Diagnostics, Therapy, and Research Center (DTFZ) at the new Center of the LVR Clinic Düsseldorf. The first phase of construction involved nursing stations with 287 beds (regular and elective services) and 8 outpatient clinic stations, examination and treatment offers for general psychiatry, gerontological psychiatry, and neurology, including a stroke unit. In addition to three laboratories, diagnostic functional areas for radiology (MRI and CT) and physical therapy services are also planned. Two four to five story buildings will be constructed, connected by a foyer on the main urban development axis, Lindenallee, with connecting bridges walled in glass. The architecture gives the building a unique identity from both inside and out: The building will be a place focused on mental health, high functional quality, and human services. The clear architecture and sophisticated building envelope radiate prestige, yet fit in well with the ensemble of other LVR clinic buildings. The overall design was based on the color spectrum of the Linden tree, a prominent local feature in the area. Transparency and space to retreat from the world, wood and accent colors create a protected, warm, and harmonious atmosphere inside the building.
