i2L2med – innovative and interdisciplinary medical teaching and learning center
of the Universitätsklinik Düsseldorf
An innovative and interdisciplinary teaching and learning building is to be constructed on the grounds of the Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf (UKD) to further develop the quality of teaching. The building is intended to be developed with an expression of high quality and offer space for the most modern medical training. For the innovative teaching approach of “translational” training - “from the lab bench to the patient’s bed” - a spatial concept is to be developed that allows medical skills and abilities to be imparted and learned from all areas of medical studies. In terms of content, the range extends from immediate and real experience to using virtual rooms to convey the teaching material.
The project is financed by the “Maßnahmen- und Investitionsprogramm zur Verbesserung der Qualität der Lehre in der Medizin” of the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Accordingly, it is the task of developing an innovative teaching and learning location that stands for quality and offers space for new, upcoming developments in the field of medical teaching. Here students are expected to develop into the doctors that society will need in the future, from basic research to clinical care.
The design-leading idea of the contribution by RDS Partner is based on the principle of structuring the various functions in the three main areas: “seminar,” “lecture,” and “anatomy/training center,” which are divided into three different individual structures connected by a glass access hall and create a campus situation.
