New Laboratory Building for Wet Research
On June 11, 2018, the topping-out ceremony for the new Medical Research Center l was celebrated at the Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Düsseldorf.
Prof. Dr. Benedikt Pannen - Dep. Medical Director, Prof. Dr. Nikolaj Klöcker - Dean, Torsten Rantzsch - UKD Nursing Director, State Secretary Dr. Jan Heinisch - Ministry of Homeland, Municipal Affairs, Construction, and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Ekkehard Zimmer - Deputy Chairman of the UKD took part in the ceremony. Andreas Koch was in attendance for the RDS partner with the Düsseldorf team.
In his opening remarks, the State Secretary of the Ministry for Homeland, Municipal Affairs, Construction, and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dr. Jan Heinisch, emphasized the importance of powerful infrastructure for research and healthcare: “Cutting-edge research and care require adequate equipment and infrastructure.”
The building is financed by the State government’s medical modernization program. As part of this funding program for construction work at university hospitals, the state is investing 338 million euro in Düsseldorf. The construction costs and the initial set-up for the Medical Research Center l are 80 million euro.
In the future, 14 research institutions will be united under one roof across 8,500 sq. m of usable area. Approximately 400 people will be able to work there after completion, which is planned for early 2020.
