Construction of new ward block for the Kliniken Essen-Mitte
With specialist departments with over twelve beds and approx. 700 hospital beds, the Kliniken Essen-Mitte is one of the leading clinics with specializations and professional expertise meeting the highest modern standard in state-of-the art medicine.
Due to new medical development and internal restructuring, RDS Partner is planning to construct a new ward block with around 400 beds at the site of the Evangelischen Huyssens-Stiftung in Essen on Henricistraße.
The size and number of floors in the new ward block will be based on the existing building. The centrally located, two-level entryway hall is accessed from Henricistraße. From the entryway area, central, easy to locate traffic hubs guide visitors into the other floors. In addition, the building houses other service facilities such as a reception area, cafeteria, and other central services. The main corridors connect all areas and floors. In addition, the arrangement of the traffic hubs ensures optimal connection of all functional units. Outpatient care and visitors are consistently separated from inpatient care and from supply and disposal routes by the established structures. Landscaped interior courtyards make it easier for visitors to find their way within the building, ensuring a high quality stay. All bedridden patients can also quickly reach necessary testing and treatment areas on the ground floor through the main corridors. Two nursing wards are located on each level. The overall arrangement of the wards is designed to facilitate excellent work processes. All patient rooms are connected to the exterior spaces. The large glass panes help create a bright and cozy atmosphere in the rooms.
The plan covers around 16,700 square meters of space with a gross room volume of around 60.000 cbm.
The construction of the new ward block is expected to receive sustainability certification in accordance with the DGNB standard, new construction usage profile, healthcare construction, and the Gold certification level.
