New Groß-Umstadt regional hospital ward block construction
The Groß-Umstadt district hospital has been firmly established as a standard care house and a regional contact point and accident location.
It consists of a 10 story high rise (the main building), an affiliated extension building, and a relatively newly constructed OP wing (1997), which is connected to the main building with a bridge. In 2012/2013 the extension geriatrics building was established in the OP wing.
The high rise began operation in 1968. Faced with the period of the original construction and the 45-year-old building that would result from it, the demands of renovation would be substantial and were therefore no longer cost efficient. The Groß-Umstadt district hospital should therefore be gradually established anew in sections. For this purpose a total conception should be developed (construction phases 1 to 3).
The first construction phase is the construction of a new ward block with a use area of around 9,000 m². For this purpose a management building needs to be removed. On the property that will become free, the ward block, the emergency room, parts of the inspection and treatment areas, an intensive care unit/ICU, two delivery rooms as well as a kitchen/food supply area should be established. A helicopter-landing platform is planned for the roof of the replacement building. In the basement floors, sufficient space for the property’s complete building services should be planned.
In a later second building phase, the existing buildings should be partially demolished and renovated, and a third building phase with additional new buildings with an area of 3,500 m² BGF will follow and should round out the total development of the area.
