Topping-out ceremony for the diabetes innovation center Karlsburg clinic
On January 19, 2015 the topping-out ceremony for the coming diabetes innovation center was celebrated in the presence of Harry Glawe (CDU), Minister for Economic Affairs, Building and Tourism in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and many other honored guests from the region as well as Michael Holewik / RDS Partner.
The new construction, which should be inaugurated in 2015, marks a mile stone in the development of the Karlsburg hospital.
"With this project, we want to decidedly promote diabetes treatment and research and update the long tradition that was begun with the Greifswalder scientist Gerhardt Katsch in 1930", underlined Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Motz, medical director of the Karlsburg hospital. Katsch opened the first German Diabetes home in Garz (RĂ¼gen) in 1930 and continued and expanded this after the Second World War in Karlsburg. Therapy and research were tightly connected with each other at the time, in the middle of the 20th century however there was still very little knowledge about the illness. Karlsburg is next to Boston, USA as one of the best therapy centers in the world. "In the fight against the seriously widespread disease that is diabetes, which is quickly developing in all industrial countries, we are now investing even more strongly in scientific knowledge," emphasized Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Motz. The new center, which integrates clinical treatment and applied research into one building, manages to work with optimal conditions in new treatment methods and also transfers this quickly into clinical practice. Karlsburg once again belongs to the first class worldwide.
