Topping-out Ceremony
New Forensic Psychiatry Clinic Lünen
On October 31, the topping-out ceremony was held for the new Forensic Psychiatry Clinic on the site of the former Victoria I/II colliery in Lünen. The new facility is being built on behalf of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MAGS), represented by the BLB NRW (Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW), and will provide 150 treatment places for the forensic services of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL).
The ceremony was attended by Minister Karl-Josef Laumann, who emphasized the project’s major social relevance for improving forensic care and public safety in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The clinic is being integrated into the emerging landscape park of the International Garden Exhibition 2027 (IGA 2027) and stands as an example of the sustainable reuse of former industrial land. Eight buildings with therapy, education, and workshop areas, as well as extensive landscaped outdoor spaces, will create an environment that combines security, functionality, and a therapeutic, open atmosphere.
As general planner, RDS Partner is responsible for the overall design and coordination of this complex project – continuing the firm’s long-standing expertise in high-security healthcare and justice buildings.
