The Patient Room
Therapeutic Environment or “Temporary Living”
LVR Clinic Düsseldorf
Construction of a New Diagnostics, Therapy, and Research Center (DTFZ)

The patient room as part of the therapeutic environment can positively influence and support the patient’s recovery process. This aspect is given special consideration in the new construction of the Diagnostics, Therapy, and Research Center (DTFZ) that Architekten BDA RDS Partner are currently building.
The DTFZ is the new center of the LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf and is one of the largest and most ambitious new psychiatric buildings in Germany.
Nursing stations with beds in the regulatory standard and elective procedures standard, day clinic places, general and gerontopsychiatry as well as neurology examination and treatment offers will be created. In addition to a laboratory, diagnostic functional areas of radiology (MRI and CT) as well as physical-therapeutic offers are planned. Two four- or five-story buildings are being built, connected by a glass entrance hall on the main urban axis, the Lindenallee, with connecting bridges. The floor plan concept with two nursing stations on one level guarantees optimal operational processes and justifiability. The easily controllable wards in a light, open atmosphere are arranged around an inner courtyard and can be operated as protected nursing areas if required. The areas of use are transported outside through the structure of the facade. Above the vertically accentuated base level, the nursing areas can be clearly recognized via horizontal window band structures. The top floor with the elective procedure ward stands out with the greatest possible transparency. The overall design is based on the color spectrum of the local linden tree. Transparency and quiet spaces and wood and accent colors create a positive and harmonious atmosphere that is flooded with light inside the building.
