2nd place prize in Europe-wide competition
awarded for new Gustav-Heinemann-Gesamtschule in Essen
The architects at BDA RDS Partner and their Berlin-based colleagues, Stadler Prenn, were awarded the second place prize in a competition judged by a distinguished panel of experts. In all, 51 architectural firms from across Europe applied to participate in the competition as general planners or as working groups. At the end of the selection process, twelve firms were invited to submit their designs. Eleven of these submitted design ideas. The new school building is scheduled for completion by the end of 2020. In serving some 1300 students and 110 employees, it will comply with the principles of sustainable construction (passive-house standard) and apply high standards of energy efficiency. Altogether, the city of Essen has budgeted approximately 40 million euros for this construction project.
