Youth hostel Prora, Rügen
A youth hostel with 400 beds has been established in a monumentally protected building with a rich tradition. During the planning- and realization phase special emphasis was placed on preserving the building’s basic form. All 96 two- to six-bed rooms with single- and communal baths face the ocean side. A large dining room, kitchen and cafeteria are located on the ground floor. On the first floor the historic “Rue intérieure” has been reconstructed, which is used as an interior boulevard. The four-meter wide corridors can be used as special spaces for informal play- and leisure activities and provide access to many group- and play rooms. A perron from the outside leads directly to the first floor. The four levels are distinguished by a color systems.
